CSI: Vegas Season 2 Gets an OG Boost with Another Original Cast Member Return
CSI: Vegas is receiving a blast from the past. The follow-up to the original Crime Scene Investigation TV show has been interjecting some of the original cast members into the second season with more new appearances scheduled to arrive after the New Year.
The first season welcomed the return of William Petersen as Gil Grissom, along with Jorga Fox as Sara Sidle. At the time, Petersen had explained that the two characters were "inseparable" and he was looking forward to the return. However, the reunion did not last for long, since Petersen converted to a role as executive producer (for season two), and Fox opted not to return altogether.
Despite the bad news, the second season of CSI: Vegas has been far from a disappointment. In fact, the new season is slated for a longer run (21 episodes) compared to the first season and will continue to feature guest appearances.
Accordingly, Eric Szmanda is preparing to return as Greg Sanders alongside Marg Helgenberger (Catherine Willows). The announcement was recently confirmed by TV Line giving yet another OG boost to the CSI spinoff.
Szmanda, who portrayed a CSI tech in the original TV series, acknowledged that he is thrilled for the reunion. The character was a favorite among audiences thanks to his wit and intuition. Moreover, for many fans, it's impossible to ignore the chemistry Sanders had with Catherine Willows.
Helgenberger – who was added to the season two cast along with other OG cast members David Hodges and Jim Brass – is excited to once again work alongside Szmanda. The two actors developed years of experience working together over a 15-season run which is something Helgenberger does not take for granted.
The 64-year-old actress recently posted a photo on her Instagram with Szmanda on the set of CSI: Vegas and described being "lucky" to work with him again. The image also included co-stars Jay Lee, Lex Medlin, Mandeep Dhillon, and Sarah Gilman whom Helgenberger labels a "talented, fun bunch."
The return of Greg Sanders to the show is anticipated to arrive shortly in 2023. New episodes are currently airing on CBS which are scheduled to continue into February (Thursdays, 9/10c). The addition of the character is certainly exciting for fans that have been disappointed with the departures of others.
Last year, Jorja Fox defended her decision to leave CSI: Vegas after one season, describing the relationship as "a love story".
Nevertheless, the actress revealed that she didn't believe it made sense for the character to remain on the show considering the exodus of Gil Grissom: "I personally just can't split Sara and Grissom up again… they belong together," she explained.
