Crucial Acting Rule Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible Co-Star Learned from Him
Working with Tom Cruise completely changed the way Simon Pegg sees the job of an actor, and now, he’s willing to share this advice with everyone else.
Mission: Impossible is a phenomenal franchise that’s been running since 1996, and it’s still going strong. While Tom Cruise has always been the face of the franchise, many of his colleagues have been with him since day one…kind of. Simon Pegg, for one, has been an integral part of the Mission: Impossible movies since the third part.
Having worked with Tom Cruise for so many years, one has got to have learned quite a few things from him. After all, Cruise is one of the world’s most renowned actors and, undeniably, the most wicked action star to have ever lived, and if we were to judge from what his co-stars say, his work ethic is immaculate.
We’ve heard one too many things said about Tom Cruise by now, both positive and negative, but one statement has always stayed true: he’s a professional to the bone. Cruise’s perfectionism moves him forward even if it requires manually dragging others along, and he doesn’t give up until his movies reach perfection in his eyes.
Ever since his first appearance in Mission: Impossible, Simon Pegg has been good friends with Cruise and often joked about how happy he was that his character, Benji, didn’t have to do all the crazy stuff that Cruise’s Ethan Hunt did. However, Simon admits that there have been quite a few things he learned from his co-star.
“I’m always happy to do anything that’s asked of me. One thing that Tom has taught me is that if you do your stunts, then you don’t ever have to hand over [the role] to a stunt professional who can’t play the character like you can. If a stunt performer never jumps in, then you are 100% always in character,” shared Pegg.
It seems that, despite Pegg’s previous statements about being glad to sit comfortably behind his laptop while Cruise does all the jumping and climbing, the actor still learned from his friend and came to appreciate his methods. We are yet to see Simon Pegg pull off crazy stunts, but at least now we know that he’s ready!
