Criminal Minds' Fans Still Can’t Stop Hating These 5 Characters That Ruined the Show
Although they didn’t even last long.
Every show has its best and worst characters, and the fan fact is that there is no ultimate good or bad character, but they become that in the mind and perception of the viewer. Sometimes even the main protagonist ends up being far from being the audience's sweetheart.
More often, though, the ones that make us hate the show or even drop it are the annoying side characters who are not even there for a long time. It turns out that there are a lot of them in the Criminal Minds universe. The show premiered in 2005, and since then BAU has seen a number of members come and go.
Here are some of the short-lived characters from Criminal Minds that still bother fans of the show.
1. Elle Greenaway
Elle was introduced in the pilot episode, where she helped the BAU to capture a possible suspect and after that she joined the team. There were actually quite many entertaining episodes with her and at first the viewers didn’t care to dislike her. She was a fine member of BAU and stayed there until season 2.
However, the fans were happy to see her leave, because it made it possible to introduce the most beloved character of all, Emily Prentiss, who replaced Elle in the team. So the fans of the show mostly hate Elle in retrospect.
2. Ashley Seaver
There was a lot of hatred for the character because she became a replacement for two really beloved regular characters: JJ and Prentiss. So you can imagine how hard it was for the audience to accept a newcomer. Add to that the fact that the writing of the character was absolutely nonsensical, and there is no way for the audience to ever embrace her.
“I am doing a rewatch of Criminal Minds and the entire character of Ashley Seaver is just ridiculous and unbelievable. I'm sure Rachel Nichols is a great actress (I haven't seen her in anything else), but she got stuck with a horribly written character,” Redditor mummies2006 said.
3. Kate Callahan
Many Criminal Minds fans consider Kate to be their least favorite short-lived BAU member. She was played by a great actress, Jennifer Love Hewitt, but maybe that was part of the reason why the character didn't work out well. Another reason was, as always, the bad writing. Kate had a lot of potential, but instead it was wasted. Like many of the show's other female leads.
“This is my least favorite short-term BAU member. That's tough for me to say because I genuinely liked Jennifer Love Hewitt in 'Party of Five' and 'Ghost Whisperer' before CM and I LOVE her now on 9-1-1! The writers just didn't put much effort into Kate's character. Maybe one season wasn't enough time to get to know her,” Redditor igozoom9 said.
4. Dr. Alex Blake
Many fans started hating Blake in advance because they already hated the actress, Jeanne Tripplehorn. It seemed like every character she played in any other show was either terrible or unrelatable. And when she got a role in Criminal Minds, everyone assumed she would be the same. And a lot of viewers were right.
“Am I the only one who hates Alex Blake? I love this show and it has been great every season so far. I just got a few episodes into season 8 and Jeanne Tripplehorn who plays Dr. Alex Blake is almost single handedly ruining this show for me. She brings every other character down and she is just awful,” Redditor TheOneTrueZipper said.
5. Stephen Walker
Another temporary character who got mixed reviews from fans, but the haters still won. They say he was so forgettable that it was not worth spending time getting to know him. He was added to help with a case, but it seems he never fit in anyway. The most interesting thing about Walker was his wife, so we can thank the writers for at least giving him that.
