Controversial R-Rated Horror Picked by Reddit Is a Must-Watch for The Hunger Games Fans
Here comes a dystopian story giving the vibes of our favorite franchise.
Back in 2012, the world saw the first film, based on Suzanne Collins’ dystopian novels. Since then, The Hunger Games fever has swept all cinema lovers, especially ones of the younger generation, and marked the new era of dystopian movie franchises.
It has also given rise to a number of attempts to mock all these authoritarian fictional worlds and their frightening rules, with one movie of this kind definitely standing out among all of them. Even though it was released 4 years ago and fell victim to the pandemic’s limitations, it’s still heatedly discussed by Redditors.
Its plot revolves around twelve people who wake up in a strange remote place unaware of where they ended up and how. It turns out they were kidnapped by a group of crazy elites to hunt them for fun. However, their game is about to be turned down by one of the hunted who is quick to realize they need to join efforts to win over the elite.
You can already see that this synopsis is quite reminiscent of both The Hunger Games movies, initially focusing on a nationally televised event in which young people fight each other to the death. It's also quite similar to the first Maze Runner film, following the test subjects of a mysterious experiment left in the middle of an intricate labyrinth.
The horror we’re talking about, however, turns out to be a satire on both these movies and the profound political divide in the US. That is why it sparked controversy regarding involving a political motif in it and indirectly making fun of some real-life events.
In this respect it can be also compared to such horror flicks, as The Purge (2013) and Get Out (2017), also having a thread of witty political satire hidden in them.
Titled The Hunt, it amazingly blends horror, action and comedy. Despite the mixed reception it gained from critics, it'd definitely be a good choice for an evening chill.
“Shut your brain off and just enjoy it for what it is,” says Redditor @NinjaZombieHunter.
Check out a darker take of The Hunger Games, as The Hunt is available for streaming on Netflix and Prime.
