We can feel it getting closer.

Summary:

  • Community was an iconic NBC sitcom that ran for 6 seasons from 2009 to 2014.
  • The show's running in-universe gag "6 seasons and a movie" turned out to be a prophecy, as it was revealed that the team is working on a script for Community the Movie.
  • According to Donald Glover, the script is now complete and the team is sorting out the schedule.

There is nothing better than seeing something you care about get a sequel, and that is exactly how the Community fandom feels about the upcoming movie. Not only is it great to see all the beloved characters come together for another fun adventure, but it's also very satisfying to see the show's own prophecy come to life.

The "6 seasons and a movie" joke was never meant to become a Community reality. Like many other brilliant lines in the show, it was said in reference to another show. However, when the sitcom actually ended at the 6-season mark, the joke started to seem more and more real.

Not making a movie at this point would have been a terrible missed opportunity, so the creative team came together again to create the celebration of Community that the show really deserved.

And even though fans are willing to wait as long as it takes to get the movie, it looks like the wait may be shorter than expected.

When Will Community the Movie Start Filming?

No matter how much time has passed since the first reveal that Community will fulfill its own prophecy and polish the 6-season TV show with the movie, fans still seem to be very eager to learn all the details about it. However, production doesn't seem to be moving as fast as many people would like.

Donald Glover, who played Troy Barnes in the show, gave fans a little insight into the production. The script for the movie is finally complete, so now it's just a matter of time before all the actors can coordinate their schedules and make it happen.

The actor confirmed the Mr. & Mrs. Smith premiere event to Entertainment Tonight.

“I was told the script is done. I haven’t read it yet, but I was told it was done. It is really just a schedule thing. I’m in. I am all in,” he said.

Considering how busy the actor has been lately with his work on Mr. & Mrs. Smith, it's not surprising that he hasn't had time to work on another movie. No matter how much he loves Community, writing and starring in one project must have been exhausting for Glover.

Hopefully he'll be able to take a break soon and find a place for Community in his busy schedule. As previously mentioned, all members of the original sitcom's cast are on board with the reunion, so Donald Glover won't be the only familiar face to see.

While the crew behind the upcoming movie works out the timing and gets everything ready for production, you have plenty of time to stock up on popcorn and refresh your memories of the iconic NBC sitcom.

Community is available to stream on Netflix.
