Hopefully, the film is worth every second of waiting.

Community, a sitcom created by Dan Harmon in 2009 and ending six years later in 2016, has to be one of the top creations in its genre.

With an insanely relatable premise focusing on the lives of community college students and staff, the show was set up for success. Great humor and an incredibly talented cast only added to the fun.

It's no surprise that fans were truly devastated when the show ended. The thought of losing their favorite characters and the countless rewatch parties was sad enough for people to demand a sequel in some form.

Luckily, Abed Nadir's six-season running gag and the movie left some room for hope.

As unbelievable as it is, a joke that was not supposed to reflect the fate of Community went so far as to make the movie based on the series a foregone conclusion.

It took 6 years of the possibility of creating it being in talks, but finally the official plans for release in 2022 were announced. Fans were promised to get the movie in late 2023, but now they will have to wait a little longer.

With the latest confirmation from series star Joel McHale, the Community movie production was as close to the production stage as one could imagine.

They had an interested director, cast and crew all ready to start shooting this summer, but all plans were delayed due to the writers strike that is taking place in Los Angeles.

"I think they were extremely close to — I mean, Dan is somebody that tweaks things but, obviously, that's all stopped. But I think it was pretty darn close.

It was close, the shoot date was coming up and we were all excited to do it and then the writers strike happened, which obviously put everything on hold, and rightfully so," the actor said to Variety.

Although there is obviously a legitimate reason for the delay in production, the fans are still a little disappointed by the decision.

On the bright side, however, the delay does not mean cancellation. Peacock seems to be ready to continue production when the time comes, so all the loyal Community members need now is patience.
