It’s time for the greatest cinema battle yet to end.

On the same day that it was confirmed that both Barbie, directed by Greta Gerwig, and Oppenheimer, directed by Christopher Nolan, would be sharing the same release date, the Internet decided to turn it into a battle.

With many memes flooding the web, a serious debate ensued: while some were in favor of the light-hearted yet profound take on Barbie, others felt it had no business competing with the much darker and more serious Oppenheimer.

Although it was clear to the majority of sensible viewers that the two films could hardly be compared, it took Cillian Murphy, who portrays J. Robert Oppenheimer himself, to make a definitive statement on the matter.

“I can't wait to see Barbie. I love Margot Robbie, I love Ryan Gosling, I want to see them now! I don't know what the debate is about <...> My advice would be for people to go see both on the same day. If they are good movies, that’s what wins in the cinema,” the actor said in an interview with La Vanguardia.

Cillian Murphy may be the first of the Oppenheimer cast to address the Barbieheimer movement on the Internet, but he's not the first Hollywood star to do so. The question of choosing between two movies has made it so far from the Internet that it has made it to the red carpets and found its way into Mission: Impossible - Part One premiere.

Even though Tom Cruise is a huge fan of both films, he got his priorities straight and chose to attend the Oppenheimer premiere on Friday and the Barbie premiere the following day, Saturday. It's hard to say the choice was unexpected for the action star.

When you are ready to make your personal choice, mark July 21 on your calendar and head to your local theater to purchase tickets for either the Barbie or Oppenheimer premiere. Or just follow Cillian Murphy's advice and choose both back-to-back for an ultimate experience!
