Only some actors actually perform their stunts themselves, and the majority of them are not insane like Cruise: when they do that kind of stuff, they’re immensely scared.

Action actors are the tough guys of the industry. While most other performers rely heavily on their stunt double whenever it comes to shooting a potentially risky scene, action actors don’t always do so. In fact, the vast majority of them have a great physique and tend to pull off as many stunts as they can themselves.

Still, even among action actors, there are very different breeds of performers. Some would only do the simplest stunts; others would push themselves to the limits of what can be done without years of extensive special training behind one’s back…

There’s also Tom Cruise, but since others don’t share his love for potentially deadly stuff, we’ll skip that part.

Chris Hemsworth is a tough guy, there’s no doubt about that, and a great action actor. For Hemsworth, the reason for doing his own stunts is very different: he wants his movies to be as believable as possible, and having the audience see his face in an action-packed scene instead of the stunt double’s back is crucial to the actor.

"This is real, you know. We're sweating, we're anxious, we're nervous, we're intimidated, and that's what's being captured," explains Chris.

For his newest movie, Extraction 2, Hemsworth undertook some classic Cruise-worthy stunts himself, and he’s proud of his work… But this doesn’t mean that Chris wasn’t scared sh*tless while filming those sequences!

At Extraction 2’s premiere, the actor revealed the stunt that had him most terrified.

"There's always risk going into those scenes… That said, the one that scared me the most was being on top of a moving train that was going forty miles an hour, and having a helicopter twenty feet in front of me flying backwards. And then Sam in the middle, filming the whole thing," shared Hemsworth.

This insane sequence wasn’t the only one the actor did himself for the movie, just the most terrifying. For example, Hemsworth also undertook an entire 21-minute-long fight scene which left him absolutely exhausted.

Still, the actor loved it: he feels like “everything he'd done in the last 10 years kind of led to that point.”
