Chicago P.D.’s Atwater Is Ready to Be an Ultimate Third Wheel at Ruzek’s Wedding

Every single TV enthusiast has been waiting for the winter-spring season of 2024 to come and bring new seasons of their favorite shows to their screens. Even though the shows were forced to produce shorter seasons due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes last year, they are still packed with events.

Chicago P.D. is no exception. Season 11 may not have been the easiest or most fun to watch yet, but it was definitely entertaining. Even better, the show has no plans of slowing down. Finally, it may bring that moment of happiness and respite when it's time for the big P.D. wedding.

Everyone is invited, and some may even surprise you with unexpected roles.

When Will Burgess and Ruzek Marry?

Wedding bells are ringing across Chicago as both the Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. prepare to celebrate the union of two couples. Chicago Fire's Matt Casey and Sylvie Brett are set to tie the knot on February 28, and Chicago P.D.'s Kim Burgess and Adam Ruzek are sure to follow soon after.

Although there is no official date yet, preparations are already underway. At least in the minds of the cast and crew.

Speaking to TV Insider, LaRoyce Hawkins, who portrays Kevin Atwater, admitted that Chicago P.D. creators occasionally draw inspiration from the actor's real-life experiences. It just so happens that he has the perfect skill to officiate the upcoming wedding.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if Atwater marries them. <...> LaRoyce Hawkins is an ordained minister. I have been for about three years. I have married a couple before. So it would be dope to see them implement that and just to get everybody involved. Plus, I’ve been there the whole time, the powerful Black third wheel,” the actor teased.

To be honest, fans wouldn't be surprised either. From the beginning, LaRoyce Hawkins and his character have had a strong presence in Chicago P.D. in general, and in the lives of Ruzek and Burgess in particular. If anyone deserves a chance to shine, aside from the charming bride and groom, it's Kevin Atwater.

Whether the writers listened to the Chicago P.D. star's pitch or decided to go with someone else to officiate the ceremony, we'll find out very soon. Tune in to Chicago P.D. every Wednesday on NBC to never miss another episode.
