Chicago Fire: Will Severide Stay This Time? Yes but Not Really, Showrunner Says
The good news is that Severide’s latest return is his final decision. The bad news is that Severide will disappear once again. Go figure what’s up with this man!
Summary:
- Kelly Severide has been going away too often lately, and fans don’t trust him to stay for long.
- According to the showrunner Andrea Newman, Severide doesn’t intend on leaving anymore.
- However, in Episode 11, Kelly will go missing in the middle of the night, but not on his own whim.
Kelly Severide has the entire Chicago Fire fan community traumatized with his constant leaves and returns lately: no one can ever tell when he’ll wander off again. In Season 12 Episode 6, Kelly came back again for Brett and Casey’s wedding and assured the latter he was there to stay. But how much water does his claim hold?
Chicago Fire Showrunner Addressed Fans’ Concerns
Despite Severide’s words, the time since mid-Season 11 has taught fans not to believe anything said on Chicago Fire about everyone’s favorite arson dork’s presence on the show. Thankfully, the showrunner of the series, Andrea Newman, addressed fans’ concerns in her recent interview with Parade. But what she said…
“Severide is here to stay this season, and he and Kidd will have all-new dynamics to explore, as they end up joining forces on an arson case and find themselves at odds over a mysterious new floater on Truck 81. But the real shock comes when Severide suddenly goes missing in [Season 12 Episode 11], along with one of the rigs, both disappearing while on shift in the dead of night,” Newman revealed.
So is Kelly staying or not? And what will happen to him in Episode 11?
Is Chicago Fire Getting a New Main Antagonist?
Alright, let’s unpack what Andrea Newman said. Kelly Severide is staying and isn’t about to wander off on his own again, which is great. However, in Episode 11, he will mysteriously disappear, and considering Kelly’s desire to settle down, it won’t be on a whim. Whatever happens to Severide next, it won’t be his own choice to go MIA.
Our best bet is a new main antagonist. Perhaps, the big arson case that’s supposed to bring Stella and Kelly together will go wrong, and the criminal will get their hands on Severide; or the firefighter will be prompted to follow him into a trap. Either way, since Kelly wants to stay, we’re expecting a major confrontation to cause his leave.
But hey, at least Severide isn’t just going AWOL all of a sudden again.
