Chicago Fire's most recent episode finally addressed the issue of Kelly Severide's long-awaited return, but raised even more questions, at the same time.

Episode 21 came out just two days ago and was titled Change of Plans.

This, of course, was a reference to Kelly Severide's Alabama storyline, as in this episode, we finally learned a bit about what's going on with Kelly and what his plans are.

At the same time, it also admittedly put one of the most fan-favorite couples in jeopardy.

As both we and the other characters knew, Kelly Severide left for Alabama for an indefinite period of time to study in the best arson investigation program.

The initial plan was to have him learn from the best and come back, benefitting the entire Firehouse with his new knowledge — but the episode's not called Change of Plans for nothing.

Severide's temporary replacement as squad lieutenant, Joe Cruz, learns that Kelly is not in Alabama anymore, and he's been out of there for quite some time.

Apparently, Severide managed to impress everyone with his skills and got an invitation to join a big arson investigation… Somewhere else. No one knows where exactly he went.

Surely, Cruz assumes that Severide's wife, Lt. Stella Kidd, is well aware of her husband's change of plans, and decides to address this issue with her; after all, he's an active squad lieutenant while Kelly is absent, so he wants to learn more details.

But as it turns out, this news comes as a huge surprise for Stella, too.

Upon realizing that he slipped, Cruz tries to backtrack, but it's too late: Stella now knows that her husband left her in the dark while deciding to join some mysterious ATF investigation in an unknown location.

Lt. Kidd's lost and confused after this revelation, and it's clear that she's not pretending — Severide really chose to not tell her.

This is massive news for the Chicago Fire fans in two regards.

First of all, this likely postpones Kelly's return even further as we've no way of knowing where he is and what his plans for the future are.

Second of all, it might end up really, really bad for Kidd and Severide's marriage. We're now scared for Stellaride and don't know what to think… Much like Stella herself.
