Fans may actually see how the cliffhanger works out.

Chicago Fire is a show full of surprises. That goes for unexpected plot twists, character developments, as well as characters leaving the show out of nowhere.

It just keeps the fans on the edge of their seats wondering what is going to happen next, and that is probably one of the reasons for the show's overall popularity among viewers.

Every new teaser of each upcoming episode holds some sort of a secret reveal for a character previously left on a cliffhanger. So this time the latest trailer of season 11th episode 21 hints at what kind of future awaits Sam Carver.

As all fans remember, episode 20 ended with him being falsely arrested for helping Stella Kidd. The thing is, in that episode, Stella and Sam were dealing with a threatening man who was obsessed with Kidd.

Carver warned her about the creep, and when he showed up at Stella's apartment unannounced, she called Sam for help.

And of course Carver immediately comes to the aid of his lieutenant. As soon as he arrives at her apartment, he and the man start a fight.

But things get worse when the police arrive. Because the scene itself didn't look like a rescue, but like a strong man beating up a helpless homeless man. That's why the police took Carver away.

So now everything seems to depend on how Stella will handle the situation. Even though Sam is just a new guy in 51, he and Kidd have already formed a strong friendship.

So it would be no surprise if his time in jail ends right away.

Of course, there's another way to handle this. The writers could get Carver out of the way and let him stay in prison. But frankly, that just seems unrealistic.

Carver has just proven himself to be a good (if slightly misunderstood) guy. So the future for him and Stella is now up to the writers.

The new episode of Chicago Fire airs on May 17.
