Worry not, One Chicago fans: sources claim that Dick Wolf’s shows are back on track, aiming to release their new seasons early next year. What do we expect?

Summary:

  • The One Chicago shows got stalled by the actor’s and writer’s strikes that took up most of 2023.
  • With both strikes now done, Dick Wolf’s teams are actively working on their new seasons.
  • According to The Wrap, Chicago Fire, Med, and PD are scheduled to be released in January 2024.

As the writer’s strike ended in September, scribes all over Hollywood jumped back into their workflow, creating scripts for their already-late shows. Now, as actors, too, have returned to their routine, creators of TV series are rushing to film as much as possible to at least somewhat catch up with fans’ expectations and cravings.

The One Chicago franchise is not falling behind. Dick Wolf wants all his shows out early next year, and his teams are working tirelessly. What do we know about that?

According to The Wrap, the One Chicago shows are already in full motion. Fire, Med, and PD should enter the shooting stage early this winter as they’re rushing to release new seasons. While some show could be lagging behind for all we know, the general sentiment is that all three series should come out in January 2024.

Chicago Fire and its sister shows are not the only TV series by Dick Wolf that have such an ambitious release schedule: the entirety of the Law & Order universe is also set to come out as early in 2024 as possible, though it doesn’t have the strict time limitations of the One Chicago shows. The work over at Wolf’s is in full swing.

With such a tight schedule, it’s easy to predict that the crews and actors will be exhausted by the time their new episodes roll out, but at least it would allow all three dramas to catch up with their normal timings. For Chicago Fire, it’s especially important since the anticipation for the upcoming Season 12 is higher than ever.

Why the Excitement About Chicago Fire Season 12?

Chicago Fire’s next season is set to bring back the fan favorite: Kelly Severide. Earlier this fall, Variety reported that Taylor Kinney, the Severide star who took a sudden leave of absence halfway through Season 11, would return in early Season 12 to reprise his iconic role. And that’s just when we thought Kinney was done!

Kelly Severide has always been the main sweetheart of all Chicago Fire fans, and his absence throughout the second half of S11 was even more noticeable considering the lack of explanation from the actor or the showrunners. Many fans were worried that Taylor Kinney would not come back to the show at all.

Against our worst expectations, the actor is set to return next season, and while it’s not yet known whether he’ll be back full-time or just to make a cameo appearance, fans are excited. Even though some viewers pointed out that it’d be hard to write Severide’s plotlines after his return, the general sentiment is widely positive.

The news of Chicago Fire potentially releasing the next season early next year ignites hopes in the show's fans’ hearts for this exact reason. We’ve all been missing good old Severide, and it would be amazing to see him again — even if it’s a cameo.

That time can’t come soon enough, so rejoice Chicago Fire fans: we could meet our old friend as early as January 2024. It’s like Christmas will come late this year!
