Chicago Fire Drought Is Almost Over, Don’t Miss Out on New Episodes

While midseason hiatuses aren't exactly new for any network TV show, this time around fans of the One Chicago universe had to endure two major hiatuses in one season. First, viewers had to wait for Chicago Fire to return from February 28 to March 20, and then, just 3 episodes later, the show went on hiatus again.

Fortunately, the drought is almost over as the latest episode of the series is set to premiere on Wednesday, May 1 on NBC.

Is Chicago Fire on Hiatus?

The last episode Chicago Fire fans saw on their screens was the 9th episode of the 12th season, titled Something About Her. After that, the show took another month-long hiatus, only to return for the final time this season on Wednesday, May 1 with an episode titled The Wrong Guy.

This break wasn't the only one the show had to go through this season. In fact, some fans have complained that it felt like all One Chicago shows took a break every other episode. Unfortunately, there wasn't much the production team could do about it.

With all the shows coming to the network much later than usual this time around, and with fewer episodes than usual, the producers wanted to spread them out so that all the shows would at least end in May as usual. This will finally get the TV schedule back to normal after the WGA and SAG AFTRA strikes.

Will There Be Chicago Fire Season 13?

Getting back to a normal schedule is important for the upcoming seasons of the One Chicago shows, as they have all been renewed for their next respective seasons. In the case of One Chicago, it will be the 13th season, and although there's no official information about the show's release date, we can expect it to return to NBC this fall.

For now, Chicago Fire will finish its 12th season without any additional breaks or hiatuses. With a new episode each week in May, the procedural will air its grand season finale on May 22.
