Chicago Fire has taken fans on an emotional rollercoaster since the premiere when the first death occurred.

Since then, it was clear that many characters would not make it to the end of the show. But the deaths of some of them were so heartbreaking that fans still can't let go.

The death of Brian "Otis" Zvonecek is probably the most impactful one on the show. The thing is, Otis is the only member of Firehouse 51 who didn't make it out of the Mattress Factory fire.

He dies in episode 1 of season 8, and it changes the whole dynamic of the show. The fans were in total shock because no one expected to lose the character who had almost gotten everything up to that point.

He was getting more and more storylines and screen time, so the writers' decision to kill off Otis was at least unpredictable.

"Otis's death was awful. But it wasn't even his death that did me in, it was his makeshift memorial by the firehouse, where Boden places the bronze helmet. I think that was when it really hit me that he wasn't coming back and I bawled like a baby," Reddit user Chopstick86 said.

Another scene left fans devastated when the show's writers decided that Chief Hawkins would die in the line of duty. Hawkins was introduced in season 10 and quickly became a fan favorite.

One of the reasons was that he fell in love with Violet Mikami, despite being her boss. He died in a building that collapsed while he was trying to help a victim escape.

His death also caught fans off guard, because the writers had built up his life so carefully that it seemed he had a great future with Violet.

"Hawkins hit me hard too. I had tears in my eyes. He was a good man, who truly cared about violet. I feel he was better for her than gallo, since he was mature and calm. He calmed her competitive nature and made her relax," Reddit user my_monkeys_fly said.

It seems like the writers killed off these great characters on purpose to play with the feelings of the fans. But let's just hope that good times are yet to come… and our today's favorites are safe.
