Yay for Severide, nay for everything else.

Summary:

  • Chicago Fire is an NBC procedural drama that is part of the One Chicago Universe.
  • One of its fan-favorite characters, Kelly Severide, was written out of most of the show's season 11 due to the actor's temporary leave of absence.
  • Now, with season 12 returning in January, Chicago Fire is teasing Severide's comeback and the return of his romance with Stella Kidd.

If there's one franchise that can't be stopped no matter what's going on in the world, it's Dick Wolf's One Chicago, including all three procedurals.

While the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes that lasted throughout the summer and ended this fall had an impact on production, the teams behind the show were very quick to get back on their tight schedule and get back to viewers.

Although there are some changes that season 12 will bring that fans aren't too happy about, such as the departures of not one, but two major characters, Sylvie Brett and Blake Gallo, there is some good news to balance that out. Taylor Kinney will finally bring back his Kelly Severide from the long trip with one of the ATF investigations.

What fans won't be excited about is Severide's immediate return to his romance with Stella Kidd.

Will Severide and Stella Stay Together?

When the news of Taylor Kinney's leave of absence first broke, there was a lot of speculation about how the team behind Chicago Fire would handle the situation on the field. Not only did Severide have to leave, but the length of his leave was undefined, just like Kinney's.

Many fans of the show believed that if Kelly Severide left the show for even one season, it would be the end for him and Stella Kidd. This was not treated as bad news. Throughout the seasons, Kidd did not manage to win over that many viewers.

For those who didn't mind her as a stand-alone character, they were tired of the romance between her and Severide, which lacked chemistry and seemed forced. However, the first teaser for season 12 shows that the couple is back together, stronger than ever.

“I’m here. We’re in this together,” Severide tells his wife before sealing the promise with a kiss.

Like it or not, Stellaride continues to dominate the Chicago Fire romance scene. But knowing that nothing is ever easy in the One Chicago universe, it's safe to assume that some drama is in store for them as well. Be sure to tune in to NBC on January 17th to catch the premiere episode.
