Chevy Chase Shades the Community Cast: 'Those People' Were 'Too Much' For Him
Although the actor left the series nine years ago, he still seems to hold a grudge, describing his time on the show as unpleasant.
Community is undoubtedly a landmark project among modern TV shows and especially sitcoms, as even though it ended eight years ago, countless fans around the world still have fond memories of the series and its many iconic moments.
Thanks to a brilliant cast, the students of Greendale Community College captured the hearts of viewers and kept them glued to their screens during every episode, as the outstanding chemistry between the characters felt unique and genuine.
In reality, however, it was not all sunshine and rainbows as Chevy Chase, who portrayed Pierce Hawthorne, left the series after season 4 and only made a brief cameo appearance in season 5 before it was revealed that his character had died off-screen.
Although it was the actor's own decision, it was most likely influenced by frequent conflicts between him and other cast members, including the show's creator Dan Harmon, and it certainly looks like Chase is holding the grudge to this day.
During his recent appearance on the WTF podcast, the actor revealed that he felt "constrained" during his time on the show because it wasn't as funny and uncompromising as he would have wanted it to be.
Although Chase said that everyone did their parts well, he felt "happier being alone" and didn't particularly enjoy being around "those people" all the time as it was "too much" for him.
Fans see his revelation as just another reminder that his departure from the show was a good decision, even if his character was great, because with an actor like that, the filming process must have been excruciating.
His aforementioned confrontation with Dan Harmon is particularly infamous, as Chase used the N-word during his emotional outburst.
With such an attitude, fans won't really miss the character during the upcoming cast reunion in the Community feature film, as otherwise, even though his character is dead, he could have appeared in a flashback or some other way.
Community: The Movie is expected to be released sometime in 2024, although the exact date hasn't been announced yet.
