Celebrimbor Recasting Robbed LotR Fans of a Khazad-dum Storyline in RoP Season 1
Although the first season of Rings of Power may have had its shortcomings, one aspect the show excelled in was its introduction of the dwarves.
For the first time on-screen, fans were treated to witnessing the dwarven kingdom at its mightiest. Including the vast realm of Khazad-dûm before its collapse to what would become Moria.
However, recent leaks from the show's production have revealed season one could have included even more dwarven backstory. That's if a storyline had not been unfortunately cut between Celebrimbor and the legendary dwarf craftsman Narvi.
From mid-2021, long before the series was due to air, theonering.net had received some behind-the-scenes info about the show. Most of which turned out to be factual, but with a few details clearly changed along the way.
One of these revealed secrets included details of the role of Celebrimbor being recast part-way through production. The specifics of why the actor was changed are unknown.
Yet it was disclosed that Tom Budge was already intended to play the master elven smith, who had even started filming his parts already. The role was then recast to English actor Charles Edwards instead.
Although many fans of the series would agree Edwards did a more than satisfactory job with the role after he took the part over, newly leaked details now reveal that along with the change of actor, also came a significant shift in the character's part in season one.
Celebrimbor was initially intended to have more of an interaction with the dwarves personally.
Likely being introduced to the dwarven craftsman Narvi, who are together destined to form a strong friendship and will both create the great Doors of Durin for the West gate of Khazad-dûm.
Their partnership represents a significant event of the Second Age. And it is disappointing that the storyline had to be cut from the series' formative beginning.
Fortunately, all is not lost. It has now been confirmed that Narvi will be appearing in season two of RoP for definite. Some sources predict that actor Will Keen is a promising contender for the part.
However, further details of the character are yet to be officially confirmed.
Hopefully, this means that any parts of Celebrimbor's and Narvi's storyline we would have missed will now be included in the show's second season instead.
Considering the series is already off to a shaky start, focussing more on one of its more successful aspects so far certainly couldn't hurt to win more fans for the show into its second season.
