It was an encounter that would have made a slightly more sensitive Tolkien fan simply pass out.

Sometimes real life's situations are cooler than any movie, and what happened to 22-year-old Ben Coyles is proof of that.

On the evening of his birthday, April 13, Ben (apparently a fan of the Lord of the Rings) was in a pub in Bristol dressed as Gandalf.

At some point he was offered the chance to meet the real Gandalf.

It turned out that Ian McKellen, who played the role of the wizard in Peter Jackson's iconic Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogy, was just a few steps away from Ben.

The video of the unusual meeting, which would bring tears to any fan of the movie trilogy, was filmed by the young man's friend and then posted on Tik Tok, where it has predictably garnered record views – more than 3 million.

Watching two Gandalfs meet and holding hands (!) is just a wholesome experience that will make your day.

Felix Spencer, who was also at the birthday party, told the Lancashire Telegraph exactly how the meeting happened:

" […] Someone comes up behind me and asks if he'd like our Gandalf to meet the real Gandalf. I assumed it was someone just joking around but when I turn around to talk to him he gestures towards his friend. It takes me a while to realise at first but then I see that it is in fact Ian McKellen."

He added that the actor was very kind and polite and obviously delighted to see the man dressed as the character he enjoyed playing so much.

Ben's friend also shared that he and his girlfriend deserve to be rewarded with this in every way magical situation, as they recently have been raising money to the MND and ME, a charity that supports people with Motor Neurone Disease.

It was recently announced that Warner Bros. will be releasing several new movies based on J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings universe.

No director has yet been attached to the project, but Jackson, as well as Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, who worked with him on the trilogy, told that Warner Bros. have kept them informed "every step of the way."

Hopefully, fans will get another chance to see Sir Ian McKellen as Gandalf.
