As Ellen Pompeo spends less and less time on the set of Grey's Anatomy, the actress behind Dr Jo Wilson assures fans that the show's future is not in jeopardy.

Grey's Anatomy premiered on 27 March 2005. Since then, the ABC show has gone on to produce 19 seasons with more than 400 episodes and a huge fan base.

The medical drama revolves around Dr Meredith Grey, played by Ellen Pompeo, who viewers meet as an intern in Season 1 and follow through all 19 seasons as her career and personal life unfold before their eyes.

In 17 years, the show's cast has changed dramatically.

What started with nine main actors in Season 1 has grown to 18 stars in Season 19, with only three actors remaining from the original cast – Ellen Pompeo, James Pickens Jr. and Chandra Wilson.

However, some actors joined later but have appeared in more than half of the episodes, earning recognition and love from the audience. One such fan-favourite character is Dr Jo Wilson, portrayed by Camilla Luddington. Luddington has appeared in 230 episodes since joining the cast in 2012.

While fans of Ellen Pompeo have every reason to worry that they'll be seeing less of Meredith Grey in the future, fans of Camilla Luddington can rest assured that Dr Jo Wilson is in it for the long haul. Camilla Luddington recently told Entertainment Tonight that she has no plans to leave Grey's Anatomy any time soon.

"I love this season so much that I'm in it. I'm just in it. I also feel that Jo's story has not been told completely. It would be strange for me to walk away at this point. I'm committed," she said.

Luddington added that it is the show's writers who decide the fate of the characters and they could kill off her character at any time. But if it were up to her, she wouldn't leave. The actress also noted that viewers should not worry about the future of the show. Even though Meredith is leaving Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, Luddington is sure that Pompeo, who remains an executive producer on Grey's Anatomy, will never completely leave the show.
