While the fact that Ryan Gosling was nominated for his performance as Ken while the Barbie herself, Margot Robbie, was left out of her respective category is somewhat ironic, it should have remained nothing more than a meme. Instead, social media exploded with very hateful messages against the Academy.

When asked about the whole situation during a panel at a special SAG screening, Robbie finally closed the debate around the topic of her own snub. According to the actress, she feels incredibly grateful for all the recognition the film has received, and her attitude won't change depending on the Academy's decision.

“There’s no way to feel sad when you know you’re this blessed. <...> We set out to do something that would shift culture, affect culture, just make some sort of impact. And it’s already done that, and some, way more than we ever dreamed it would. And that is truly the biggest reward that could come out of all of this,” the actress said.

In fact, 2023 was a great year for cinema, with many films competing and many actresses and directors deserving of recognition.

That's what audiences should have been paying more attention to, and exploring the work of those who were nominated, instead of fighting on the Internet.
