Brooklyn Nine-Nine Cancelation Story That Will Make You Believe In Power Of Social Media
Who would've thought Twitter holds so much power?
When it comes to remembering one of the great recent sitcoms, Brooklyn Nine-Nine is probably one of them.
With a fairly simple setup of following the lives of seven New York City Police Department detectives, the show was absolutely hilarious and brightened the days of many viewers.
Like many good shows, it had to end. It was canceled in 2021, after the final season 8. However, it could have been cut even shorter, with only 5 seasons, back in 2018 when FOX decided to drop it.
What the exact motives were behind such a decision by the network is unknown, but it was faced with quite a huge backlash.
It's not surprising to see fans rioting on social media when their favorite show is canceled, but it's more unexpected to see such big names as Lin-Manuel Miranda, Mark Hamill, Seth Myers, and even Guillermo del Toro joining in.
"Brooklyn Nine-Nine has given us fully human characters, beautiful, powerful, flawed, vulnerable, majestic... In whichever form, B99 must return. It will. And I will be there to watch. And, it is my hope that I hope that, this time, a lot more people do too," the director spoke up on his Twitter account.
Although FOX did not bow to the pressure of public opinion and decided not to pick up the show, other networks saw how much of a success Brooklyn Nine-Nine was.
The promising sitcom was later picked up by NBC, giving fans three more hilarious seasons with their favorite characters.
This story just goes to show how much power social media can have over anything and everything that happens in the entertainment industry.
While it's not always enough to make a significant impact, it's always worth trying to fight for a show you love and feel was taken from you far too soon.
Even though Brooklyn Nine-Nine has come to an end, you can still binge-watch the iconic sitcom once again by streaming it on Netflix, Peacock TV, or NBC online.
