Bridgerton’s Showrunner Gives Fans Hope For Penloise: ‘I’m Rooting For Them’
Is there a chance for reconciliation?
Summary:
- Bridgerton is a romantic period drama based on the series of novels of the same name by Julia Quinn.
- At the end of season 2, Eloise Bridgerton and her best friend Penelope Featherington had a fallout due to Eloise discovering Penelope's second identity.
- Showrunner Jess Brownell teases further development of their relationship in season 3.
While some might argue that Bridgerton is all about romance and all kinds of romance, that wouldn't be true. Sure, just like the books, the show explores every romantic trope imaginable through the very different stories of 8 Bridgerton siblings. But there is much more to it than meets the eye.
In addition to the main couples, Bridgerton always puts the spotlight on family love and the love that happens between two friends. For the past two seasons, Eloise Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington have been the best example of friendship, always having each other's back.
However, with the revelation of Penelope's second identity as Lady Whistledown at the end of season 2, the dynamic between the two characters will change. Since Penelope will be the female lead in season 3, her relationship with Eloise will be central to the season.
Will Eloise Forgive Penelope In Season 3?
Although fans are already worried about the future of the two best friends, new Bridgerton's showrunner Jess Brownell is making sure to calm everyone down.
There's no denying that there's an ongoing conflict between the two, but season 3 may be the perfect opportunity for them to talk things out and come to an agreement.
“I'm rooting for them. Bridgerton is about love in its many forms, and that includes friendship. The breakup between two friends can be just as earth shattering as a romantic relationship. <...> But it's also a chance for the two of them to grow and learn about themselves without that safety net of always having their best friend around,” Bronwell said to EW.
For Penelope in particular, self-development and growth are essential to the success of her season. A wallflower in the past, this time she decides to move on from her hopeless crush on Colin Bridgerton, find some confidence in herself, and find a man who will give her the freedom she needs.
To see how that works out for the anonymous writer, and what challenges she will face as she tries to juggle a friendly breakup with Penelope, Colin's reappearance, and her Lady Whistledown business, tune in to Netflix on May 16, 2024 to not miss the premiere of Bridgerton season 3 part 1.
