Bridgerton’s Penelope And Eloise Both Need To Grow Up For S3 To Work Out
Penloise is the pair we root for the most.
Summary:
- Bridgerton is a Netflix romantic period drama based on Julia Quinn's novel series of the same name.
- Throughout two seasons, viewers witnessed the development of the friendship between Eloise Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington.
- In the season 2 finale, the two best friends argued over Penelope's secret identity as Lady Whistledown.
- To repair their friendship in season 3, both characters must grow from their mistakes.
There is nothing that hurts as much as the fallout of two best friends who have always been there for each other. The season 2 finale of Bridgerton has to be the best proof of that, as viewers still can't get over the heated argument between Penelope and Eloise after the latter finally managed to crack the mystery of Lady Whistledown.
After Eloise's brother Colin's heart-wrenching words, which will surely come back to haunt him throughout season 3, the scene of the two young ladies' friendship falling apart was one of the most powerful in the entire series.
While fans of both are still fighting over who was in the wrong and who should apologize first, the reality is that there's a lot of growth and introspection for both of them to do in order to reconcile and make season 3 the happiest it can be for anyone involved.
Who Was Right, Penelope or Eloise?
At the end of season 2, it was clear that Penelope Featherington was at the lowest point she'd ever been.
She had just found out that her family's new provider, cousin Jack, was a fraud who could not care for either of them. Her misguided efforts to help Eloise are in shambles after she discovers her secret. And even her longtime crush, Colin, ended up laughing at her in the middle of the ball.
In order to return in season 3, she will have to rethink all of her decisions and choose a different path. Fans feel that she owes an apology not only to Eloise, but also to Marina, whose life she ruined. With her upcoming romance with Colin, dishonesty could cause her to lose another Bridgerton sibling, so it has to stop.
Contrary to popular belief, however, Eloise also has some self-reflection to do. All these years, she's been preaching women's rights from the comfort of her own mansion, surrounded by her loving, incredibly wealthy and accepting family and many servants.
She chooses to fight only for the rights she wants - freedom from forced marriage - when the reality for the majority of women around her is far more frightening.
Instead of creating her own platform, when she has all the resources and means to do so, Eloise has spent years obsessing over another successful woman's job. In order to reconcile with Penelope, she will have to accept her wit and success without bringing her down.
Perhaps her new friendship with Theo Sharpe will help her understand the outside world a little better. Whether that will be enough to restore their friendship, we'll just have to wait and see. Tune in to season 3 of Bridgerton on May 16, 2024, to not miss another twist in Penloise's story.
