Bridgerton’s Long-Awaited Promo Got the Fandom Fighting for Their Faves
Season 3 already seems dim for some.
Summary:
- Bridgerton is a Netflix and Shondaland co-production set in Regency London.
- Based on the books by Julia Quinn, each season follows a new love story of the Bridgerton siblings.
- While season 3 will focus on Colin Bridgerton, fans of the character seem to be unhappy with the changes to his and his brother Benedict's arcs.
While you'd think that with the Bridgerton season 3 premiere just around the corner, Polish fans would be excited about all the promotion, that doesn't seem to be the case. While the world tour is certainly exciting enough for the fans, they are still dreading the actual storylines and character development that lies ahead.
With Bridgerton the TV show already known for making some unpleasant changes to the source material, including Colin and Penelope's arcs, viewers are skeptical that the show will leave the magical romance untouched. Besides, judging by the latest promo, it looks like Colin's brother Benedict has been given a piece of Colin's original storyline. Or was he?
Benedict Bridgerton in Season 3
The ongoing rivalry between fans of the two brothers began when it was announced that season 3 would not follow the third book, Benedict's book, but the fourth, which focused on Colin. The decision to change the order caused a huge backlash and created some narrative problems, as the time gap between books 2 and 4 is more than 10 years.
Although fans don't expect Bridgerton to jump ten years in time, the change in order did affect the characters and their motivations. Colin, who began our search for his purpose in his respective novel, Romancing Mister Bridgerton, looked up to his older brothers, Viscount Anthony Bridgerton and a famous artist, Benedict Bridgerton.
However, Benedict wasn't a famous artist when he started his book. He was led to this path by his love interest, Sophie Beckett, and without her introduction to the show, Benedict's success simply cannot happen. And his season 3 promo suggests just that: without love, he's lost and can't find his own purpose.
While Polin fans may argue that it was Colin who couldn't find his place in the world and traveled around for a decade, the show simply erased that part and set up the characters differently. Besides, in Regency times, all children except the heirs had no practical purpose at all, so the struggle isn't exactly unique.
Fortunately, the premiere of the first part of Bridgerton season 3 will soon put an end to all the bickering. If you don't want to miss the beginning of Polin's friends-to-lovers romance, be sure to tune in to Netflix on May 16.
