Bridgerton Uses a Surprising Prop to Film Those Steamy Sex Scenes
The hot and steamy Bridgerton became a hit since the premier of the first season.
The diversity, costumes, storylines, and, especially, intimate scenes kept the audience fired up for more. The second season was less explicit in terms of love scenes, but now we have some insight into how those cherry-picked scenes were filmed right from the cast.
Season 2 of Bridgerton had the cast face not only hot scenes but also hot weather conditions to film those scenes in, which led to Jonathan Bailey spilling some tea in a joint Netflix cast interview, where he said,
"First day on set was intimate and exposing. It was a scene with Sabrina Bartlett where we first meet Anthony with his bottom out. I got to know the makeup department intimately as well because they had to de-shine my bottom."
And that is not the end of the conversation, as it turned out. An interview revealed that not only make-up department got to work on his behind, but that the actors had been introduced to a new prop, which helped them film love scenes in a more realistic way without actors having too much physical contact.
While speaking to Radio Times Bailey said, "It's amazing how that whole industry has just come on, even in a year. There are new tricks to the trade – little cushions – and it's amazing what you can do with a half-inflated netball."
It is always a little awkward for actors to act out sex scenes, and the preparation process requires some safety measures and everything that can make the process more comfortable for actors. Bridgerton has an intimacy coordinator to help actors on set and Jonathan Bailey says that these people helped to make the prosses less awkward, mentioning that the cast tries to turn those filming days a fun memory.
"If there are two people doing a sex scene, the rule is they must have three barriers separating them and there are certain acts where a half-inflated netball can allow for movement without having to connect physically. It's pretty silly really and we have some hilarious moments, but it makes it less awkward."
We are yet to find out whether or not season 3, which will air no sooner than spring 2023, will be as hot and steamy as season 1. But we now can be sure that the cast and crew know their way around this stuff pretty well.
