Not everyone was smitten.

Although Bridgerton is primarily a romance, there is a certain amount of intrigue, thanks to Lady Whistledown and her society pages. Her words can either ruin a person or make them the most popular person in a day, and the Bridgerton family has felt that effect many times over the past two seasons.

This season, Lady Whistledown had a lot to say about Colin Bridgerton in particular. And although we all know she had her own personal motives for doing so, many viewers had to agree.

Colin's new look and the whole persona he took on while traveling was nothing but a farce. And a very ridiculous one at that. But there was a deeper meaning to it.

Colin Bridgerton Season 3 Glow Up

Sitting down for an interview with Marie Claire, the two romantic leads of this season were faced with a question about Colin's new look and the persona that he tried so hard to pull off before his guard fell off in the face of his newfound love for Penelope.

@marieclaire_au Pirate Colin gave us all the ick in the first ep of Bridgerton S3 — here’s what Luke Newton and @nicolacoughlan had to say about *that* wink… #bridgerton #bridgertonseason3 #polin #celebrityinterview #nicolacoughlan #lukenewton #colinbridgerton ♬ sonido original - kazul🐝💛

If you've seen the first part of the show, you'll know exactly what those moments were, and Luke Newton, who portrayed Colin, wasn't too surprised that people got the ‘ick’ out of them. The youngest of the Bridgerton brothers flirting with all the women he saw wasn't something that matched his personality.

“It’s meant to not feel like him. Cause, I think, there has to be that element of pretense. He’s come back and thinks he’s the man about town so it’s like slightly elevated,” the actor said.

Nicola Coughlan, who portrayed Penelope, agreed wholeheartedly, pointing out that her character was the only one who didn't fall for this new persona, noting that there was something off about her former best friend.

If you didn't enjoy that part of season 3 and skipped all the winking and giggling that happened, you'll be happy to know that the second part of the season won't feature anything remotely similar. Being honest with Penelope about his feelings has definitely brought Colin back to his older self. The only problem is that now it's Penelope who's not being honest.
