Bridgerton is undoubtedly known for its risqué sex scenes, which have left fans waiting in anticipation for every episode.

The actors make it look so real and exciting to watch, after all. But while this period drama may be praised for its seemingly perfect sex scenes, not many people know that getting them to look this steamy and believable on screen came with a fair share of juggling. So, without further ado, let's get into all the racy details!

Most of us probably think that the actors are the ones who are solely responsible for making the sex scenes happen the way we see them on our screens. Although they do the biggest and most important part of the work, there are also intimacy professionals on set who help manage this delicate process.

Bridgerton Would Be Getting More Deaths and Drama If Not Based on Books

And according to Bridgerton's intimacy coordinator Lizzy Talbot, there's a lot the viewer doesn't see, dubbing the scenes "a bit of an intimacy circus."

"There's so much going on there," Talbot told Insider. "We were in loads of different locations all over the country. We were inside, outside, up ladders; we were everywhere," she explains. This, of course, means they had to take a lot of things into consideration during the process.

Filming Outside

As you may already know, plenty of sex scenes were filmed outside. That, however, wasn't an easy task, as the weather wasn't always on their side. There were times when the cast and the crew had to work in the middle of the night and in the rain and cold. In addition to that, making actors comfortable and protecting their backs when working on rough surfaces, such as stone, are just some of the things that had to be thought through.

Regency Beds

One of the biggest challenges the crew had to face was that many sex scenes involved Regency-sized beds. Regé-Jean Page, the actor who played the beloved Duke of Hastings, was simply way too tall for those beds.

So, when it came to the rolling action scenes in bed, they had to work extra hard to make sure the actors didn't roll off the bed by accident.

Preparation of the Actors

To make sure the filming process went as smoothly as possible, the actors had to be well-prepared. Showrunner Chris Van Dusen revealed that in order to do that, the scenes were heavily choreographed and rehearsed ahead of time.

"We had many, many conversations about exactly what we were doing. It was all so that the cast would feel comfortable, and we all really left it in their hands to take the scenes for as far as they wanted to take them," he explained.

As filming such intricate scenes can get pretty intimate, the crew had to make sure actors felt safe and comfortable by providing them with modesty wear to prevent actual genital contact. But even that came with its own set of efforts. It was often quite tricky to keep all of the wear in place and it had to be secured well. The actors were checked on constantly to ensure they were covered properly and felt secure.
