Bridgerton Fans Still Can't Forgive Penelope For Her Toughest Decision

Marina Thompson's story could easily be called the most heartbreaking in the entire Bridgerton series. Anyone familiar with the books knows that the story takes an even darker turn.

The lover who could never be hers, the child, and the fear of public shame made Marina make some questionable decisions just to save herself.

However, she was interrupted by Penelope, and fans are still torn between the two.

The reasoning behind Penelope's actions is clear: she was desperately trying to protect someone she cared about. Practically the same thing Marina did, but with a different kind of consequence.

Marina knew that she, along with her unborn child, would suffer greatly if everyone found out the nature of her pregnancy.

Penelope, on the other hand, thought of Colin, who was going to marry without love. She knew Marina was going to use him and, considering her own feelings, could not stand aside.

Some fans argue that she did the right thing, even if she was not very happy about it. It's not in Penelope's character to hurt someone, so she would not be happy to see someone fail.

But as a friend, and as someone who cared so much for Colin, she did what she had to do, and anyone would do the same.

"No one is saying Penelope shouldn't have said anything, it was the way she did it that was nasty and malicious, motivated by her own petty jealousy," argues Redditor T-Girl720104, suggesting that there were always other ways to tell the truth.

She could have told Eloise, Violet, or even Colin himself that Marina was pregnant without sugarcoating it, but instead, her motives and execution just seem poorly written.

As well as that, fans are really pissed off that Penelope is not sorry or even held accountable for her actions. Many go so far as to say that she deserves to be publicly ruined and humiliated in the same way that Marina was.
