Bridgerton Fandom Is Fuming Over This Very Plausible Fan Theory

There's only one thing the Bridgerton fandom can hate more than bees, and that's the unnecessary changes from Julia Quinn's original book series.

But unfortunately, the story of the Bridgerton family as written by Quinn would have been almost impossible to portray in a TV show format without changing things.

Viewers have already met a lot of new characters, seen some get significantly more time than they had in the books, while others have been cut completely. However, the core of the show has remained the same: each Bridgerton family has found their book-matched partner and lived a happy life together.

But the story of an all-white aristocratic family with one heterosexual romance after another is something that was popular in the novels of the 2000s, not on Netflix in the 2020s.

That's why some viewers think Shonda Rhimes might shake things up even more in future seasons and play some gender-bender games.

Who Will Bridgerton Season 4 Be About?

If you haven't read the books, RegencyDarling's theory on the r/Bridgerton subreddit may not make much sense. But even if you have, it might sound very far from the truth.

But then again, think of all the times Shondaland has proven their out-of-the-box thinking and try to call it completely impossible, you won't be able to.

The user suggests that Season 4 will indeed focus on Francesca, who was recently recast as Hannah Dodd. However, it wouldn't be a celebration for those who love the original story, as her eventual love interest Michael may end up gender-bending into a scandalous Michaela.

Though of all the siblings we've gotten to know on the show, it's usually Benedict and Eloise who viewers assume are queer, their stories aren't that easy to change. In fact, Eloise's love interest was already introduced in the show in his true-to-book male form, and she's been given a replacement, Theo, to assure everyone of her sexuality.

While Benedict was promised by the writers to "bounce around," he still seems to be bouncing in only one direction. His Cinderella-like fairy tale wouldn't be possible with such a major change, if the writers didn't decide to change the character's motives completely, which would lead to a whole new story.

Considering how popular both Eloise and Benedict are, it's likely that Shondaland will want to keep them around for later seasons just to keep their fans from abandoning the show for the rest of its run.

That's why a new Francesca might actually be a perfect choice. Let's just hope that Bridgerton really does stick around for all 8 seasons as planned.
