Bradley Cooper Fans, Take Notes: His Best Role is Coming, And It's 'Terrifying'
It seems that the audience is about to see the peak of Bradley Cooper’s acting career.
Bradley Cooper is an actor, director and producer, as well as a singer, Oscar and Golden Globe nominee and winner. The actor starred in a number of prominent movies throughout these years and there are quite diverse roles in his filmography. But Cooper claims that we have yet to see his best and most difficult role.
Netflix has released the first official teaser trailer for Maestro, the second movie directed by Bradley Cooper after the debut of A Star Is Born in 2018. The new project of the cinematographer is dedicated to the composer Leonard Bernstein.
The plot of the biopic tells about the life of the legendary conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein, focusing on his long-term love story with actress Felicia Montealegre. Bernstein was portrayed by Cooper himself and the composer's wife was played by Carey Mulligan.
In a recent conversation with Cate Blanchett, who also played the conductor in TÁR, Cooper admitted that the role was the most difficult he had ever done:
“Having worked on a project in the same world [as TÁR], the level of respect that I have for that world and that podium is the most terrifying thing I’ve ever experienced. […] It’s the absolute hardest thing you could ever want to do. It is impossible.”
Leonard Bernstein was born in the US in 1918. After graduating from the Institute of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, he became its assistant conductor, then moved to New York, where he held a similar position with the local symphony orchestra, becoming its chief conductor in 1958.
His most famous works as a composer are the musicals West Side Story, Candide and the Kaddish Symphony.
Josh Singer, an Academy Award winner for Spotlight, co-wrote the screenplay for Maestro with Cooper. Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg are listed as the movie's producers.
Spielberg originally wanted to direct Maestro himself, but after seeing Cooper's directorial debut, A Star Is Born, he decided that Bradley would do an excellent job.
Maestro will be released on Netflix on December 20 after premiering at the Venice Film Festival in September.
