What Is Allegiance?
Set in Canada, the new CBC show Allegiance focuses on “identity and belonging, policing and politics and finding truth within the heart of the flawed justice system.” At the heart of the upcoming series is a rookie officer Sabrina Sohal who’s working with a seasoned detective to take down her father, a notorious and corrupt politician.
“This thoughtful and timely drama <...> will offer audiences an emotionally gritty yet hopeful story that hasn’t been told before, reflecting the complexities of policing and justice in contemporary Canada from multiple perspectives,” said Sally Catto, CBC’s General Manager.
Who’s Working on Allegiance?
The new police show will be led by Supinder Wraich from Sort Of, who will play Sabrina Sohal, and Enrico Colantoni from Station Eleven, who will take on the role of Sabrina’s more experienced training officer. Other notable cast members include Stephen Lobo, Adolyn H. Dar, Brian Markinson, and David Cubitt.
Produced by Lark Productions and CBC, Allegiance is set to be released on CBC Gem and CBC TV in winter 2024. While it’s way too early for the final judgment, the show looks promising so far, and if the execution doesn’t lag far behind the idea itself, we might be in for an interesting journey with a fresh angle.
