We’ve lost surprisingly few people in the fourteen seasons of Blue Bloods’ run.

5. Donald Kent

One of the most prominent guest-star characters, Donald Kent looked like he was there to stay. Brought in by Frank Reagan himself and promoted to his Assistant Chief, Kent was revealed as a major thorn in New York criminals’ bottom… And that was the reason why both he and his wife were shot during their 30th anniversary. Kent’s death was a major loss for the PD and the show.

4. Javier Baez

Another guest star we didn’t spend much time with, Javier Baez had strong enough connections to the main cast that we consider him a major character. Maria Baez’ unfortunate estranged brother, he was a criminal most of his life — much to his sister’s dismay. Yet in a dire situation, he took a bullet for her without thinking twice, leaving Maria both alive and devastated with grief.

3. Vincent Cruz

When it comes to sidekicks, Blue Bloods has quite a few to offer — but Vinny was one of our favorites. A notorious flirt and casanova, Cruz was always cheerful and fun to be around, chasing criminals alongside Jamie Reagan. The partners were ambushed during one of their grisliest investigations, and even dying from a shot in the neck, Vinny remained positive and jesting.

2. Linda Reagan

Coming to actual family members, Linda was a Reagan through and through — and probably the best wife Danny could have asked for. She was the barrier saving him from being obsessed with his work, and the home he always came back to. Linda’s death in an “accidental” helicopter crash destroyed her husband and kids, and was one of the darkest days for the Reagan family.

1. Joseph Reagan

The saddest part about Joe Reagan is how we never get to meet the guy despite his being such a central part of Blue Bloods. The show kicks off soon after Joe’s death with the investigation into the Blue Templar society; and the Reagans can’t really fare with losing their brother and son even seasons later. We know that Joe was a sweetheart, and that’s about it — yet nonetheless, he’s a weirdly major character.
