Black Mirror Fans Unsure Season 6 Will Save the Show (Even With That Cast)
A significant number of fans feel that the show is on a slow decline and are skeptical about the newly released teaser.
After four long years, Black Mirror, a (mostly) sci-fi anthology TV series created by Charlie Brooker, is back.
Netflix just released a teaser for season 6 and it features an all-star cast including Aaron Paul, Michael Cera, Salma Hayek, Zazie Beetz and many more.
It is being promoted as the most unpredictable, unclassifiable and unexpected season yet.
Considering that season 5 was released in 2019, fans are pleasantly surprised to see the show return after such a long hiatus, with some of them even confessing that they completely forgot that season 6 was in the works and thought the show was over.
However, not all of them are positive, as a part of the fanbase is cautious about the quality of the upcoming season.
They point out that the teaser doesn't even look like Black Mirror, but rather like any other random Netflix original.
Skeptics say that the show has been on a slow decline for a while after season 2, since the rights to Black Mirror were sold by its original British broadcaster Channel 4 to the American streaming service Netflix.
After that, the show lost much of its signature dark humor and cynicism, and just didn't feel the same.
Although it is rather subjective, the reviews seem to support this claim. Despite giving viewers some of the best episodes in the series, such as San Junipero, which was part of season 3, the show became increasingly hit and miss.
Many viewers felt that the last fifth season was just a collection of celebrity cameos and mediocre storylines.
Still, it is too early to make any solid statements.
Perhaps, this season will be a breath of fresh air for the series, especially considering its impressive cast and the 4 year gap between it and the previous season.
Besides, even the seasons that are considered not so great have their share of fans who liked them.
Black Mirror season 6 will be released on Netflix in June 2023, although a specific date has not yet been announced.
