For 12 seasons, The Big Bang Theory followed the lives of Sheldon, Leonard, Raj and Howard, occasionally delving into details of their past.

So when the creators of Young Sheldon set out to create the TBBT prequel (or should we call it an origin story?), they knew they had to follow at least some of the "canon" of Sheldon's life from the original series.

Expanding the existing canon without disrupting it is a tricky task, but the show's writers have so far managed to maintain a precarious balance between preserving the continuity of Sheldon's history and telling their original story on its own terms.

The cautious approach to canon has a downside, however. Some of the most dramatic scenes yet to appear in Young Sheldon have already been spoiled by TBBT.

And that's exactly what happened with the most dramatic storyline of Season 6.

It started with Dr. Linkletter and President Hagemeyer realizing the potential of Sheldon's grant database project and Sheldon promptly cutting them off when they tried to monetize it.

This began a fierce and competitive rivalry between Sheldon and East Texas Tech that has continued throughout the season.

Although the college has committed some despicable acts against him in an attempt to force Sheldon's cooperation, he continues to stand his ground.

The investors are pushing him to drop out of college to focus on the project, which his parents are against.

Although Sheldon wants his project to succeed, it's a known fact that he values academics above all else and doesn't want to put his education on hold or delay his graduation.

Fans watching the drama unfold should be on the edge of their seats waiting to see what happens next, but thanks to The Big Bang Theory, everyone has a pretty clear idea of what will happen in the end before the feud even begins.

TBBT Sheldon can't help bragging about his scientific achievements, and he never once mentions his grant database project, which is a dead giveaway.

It is also common knowledge that he graduated at the age of 14, and since he is 13 now, it would be nearly impossible for him to switch colleges and finish his studies in the short span of a year, pointing to the fact that he stayed at East Texas Tech despite the tension with the college.

Of course, there is always the possibility that the writers will decide to disregard canon this time in favor of a more interesting plot development for their show, and we look forward to the upcoming episodes of Young Sheldon to see if that will be the case.
