For many directors, the list of unreleased projects is often more fascinating than the actual filmography. Nolan is not one of them, but one of his ideas that never got made looks very promising.

For many years, Christopher Nolan dreamed of making a biopic about Howard Hughes.

First, Martin Scorsese tripped Nolan by releasing The Aviator, and then the director was distracted by the Batman trilogy.

Now, when asked about Hughes, he just laughs and says that he managed to find another rich character with quirks who was orphaned at an early age, referring, of course, to Bruce Wayne.

"Howard Hughes is a fascinating character. A lot of what I put into the script, which I do intend to make one day, I put into Bruce Wayne. There's been many films that have addressed different aspects of his life but not the whole thing," the director shared in his interview with Deadline.

Christopher Nolan planned to make a biopic about the American billionaire and director Howard Hughes since the early 2000s.

Once the director even revealed that the script for this project was the best he had ever written with Jim Carrey considered for the lead role.

Howard Hughes was the first US billionaire, entrepreneur, engineer, director, producer, aviation pioneer. However, his biography remains quite controversial.

He enjoyed the admiration of politicians, the love of movie actresses, the respect of competitors, but all his life he lived in a world of illusions.

There was everything in his life – youthful maximalism, obsessions, desire for complete control over the situation and a mental disorder that made him a hermit.

The fate of Hughes is extremely exciting in itself, and in the hands of a director as talented as Nolan, it would sparkle with new colors and show a new side to an iconic historical figure.

Furthermore, the casting of Jim Carrey in the lead role seems to be just what the doctor ordered.

Already in The Truman Show, the first serious movie for the actor, Carrey proved that he can handle deeper roles and can do much more than participate in the comedies such as Dumb and Dumber and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.
