Beetlejuice 2 is Finally in the Works (And Jenna Ortega May Star)
After 35 years of waiting, fans will finally get to see a sequel.
Beetlejuice 2 is finally happening! You heard it right, the news was dropped at Warner Bros.' CinemaCon 2023 panel.
It looks like Tim Burton, the genius behind the 1988 hit Beetlejuice, may direct the sequel too.
The production team is gearing up to start filming in London as early as May or June. This sequel has been a long time coming, and we've all been eagerly waiting for it.
However, recently Burton avoided rumors suggesting he might direct the next Beetlejuice film.
When asked about his involvement in a sequel, he stated to Deadline that he keeps an open mind and that he only confirms his participation when he is shooting on set.
He prefers to focus on the creative process, starting with an idea that grows naturally instead of making statements.
Although he is currently working on some concepts, it is still in the early stages, and he'll see how it develops. It was all quiet until the rumors about Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder making a comeback.
And it seems like the speculations were getting stronger, as the rumor mill was spinning with talks that Jenna Ortega might just be the star we've been waiting for in this upcoming sequel.
Jenna Ortega may possibly be joining the cast to play Lydia's (Winona Ryder) daughter. Even though it was not confirmed officially, Wednesday star would fit perfectly in this movie.
Keaton hinted at his participation more than a decade ago, and in 2014, he disclosed having discussed it with Burton.
Three years later, in 2017, the director stated that a sequel was closer than ever, and a script was said to have undergone revisions around that time.
Although we don't have many details about the movie yet, it seems realistic that both Keaton and Burton are enthusiastic about returning.
Fans have been waiting for a sequel for 35 years and are going to have to wait for a little longer.
But with the original cast and with Tim Burton as a director, it seems that nothing will stop this movie to be as successful and loved by fans just as much as the first film.
