'Batgirl' Is Set To Premiere In The UK, But Not On HBO Max
The DCEU film about one of Batman's closest associates is expected to premiere in the U.S. this fall, but fans in the UK will have to wait a little longer.
The film starring Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon boasts an incredible cast, with J.K. Simmons as Commissioner James Gordon, Michael Keaton as Batman and Brendan Fraser as the villainous Firefly. Despite such incredible power in front of the camera, Warner Bros. decided to release the film on HBO Max, refusing to show it in American theaters. Fans were rightly puzzled by this decision, but it looks like the studio is just trying to boost its streaming service numbers.
The problem is that HBO Max is still not available in the UK, as HBO's lucrative deal with Sky prevents the streaming service from launching in the old Albion. Hopefully Warner Bros. has decided not to leave British fans without a movie, seemingly confirming that 'Batgirl' will be released in 2023.
The anticipation for the film is certainly high, as directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah have recently proven to be figures to watch through their work on 'Ms. Marvel'.
"Adil and Bilall's work on ms marvel ep 1 and 6 has me even more hyped for this(show was whatever but their style shined through it). If the film has the same level of emphasis on heroism then Leslie Grace is gonna end up being more likable and heroic than batfleck lmao. Can't wait." – /slamdunksundayy.
Despite all this encouraging news, fans fear that 'Batgirl' could be pushed back significantly, even in the U.S., given that Warner Bros.' release calendar is already set for 2023.
"I think Batgirl will be December 2023, around the time of Christmas. WB also love putting films around that time slot anyway. As for the 2024 slate, I think Wonder Woman 3, Black Canary and Zatanna should be it. Maybe even Static Shock?" – /slamdunksundayy.
