Some fans believe that the actor is in no way suited to play the iconic Ken for a surprising reason.

While most fans are eagerly anticipating the upcoming release of the Barbie movie, as evidenced by the excited comments under the trailers, it seems that not everyone is as positive.

Some younger fans have apparently started an entire campaign on social media with #notmyken, as they believe that the creators have completely miscast the role.

They say that Ryan Gosling, who portrays Ken in the upcoming film, is too old to play the iconic character. The actor is now 42 years old and for some reason they see this as a problem despite his great looks and stunning physique.

In a recent interview with GQ, the actor addressed the controversy and gave a perfect answer that sums up most of these social media campaigns in a nutshell.

First, Gosling said that if people don't want to play with his version of Ken, there are plenty of others to choose from (there will be at least five other variations of the character, all played by different actors in the movie).

He then said that the whole situation was "funny" to him, and wondered if these people "ever thought about Ken before this." Gosling pointed out that even though they were suddenly acting like they cared about Ken all along, they really didn't, and that's "exactly why his story must be told."

Most fans praise the actor for exposing the hypocrisy in such a blatant way, as he pretty much summed up every online campaign that comes up every now and then about something people never cared about before.

They say it's absolutely true that Ken has always been overshadowed by Barbie, he simply wouldn't exist without her.

Making a big deal out of something as insignificant as the actor's age, which doesn't even show, it's not like Ken is suddenly a gray-haired old man, is a rather pointless endeavor.

Barbie will tell the story of the titular doll, portrayed by Margot Robbie, who ventures out into the real world, accompanied by Ken.

The movie will be released on July 21, 2023.
