Barbie Releasing on the Same Day as Oppenheimer is Warner Bros. Punishing Director Nolan for Betrayal
This is no coincidence: Warner Bros. actively tries to humiliate Christopher Nolan for leaving them by undermining his Oppenheimer by releasing Barnie the same day.
This summer sees some of the most intense movie release-related drama of the past few years.
While Tom Cruise is tearing and swearing in frustration over two massive movies canceling out his new Mission: Impossible, Christopher Nolan has to fight for his film’s success, too: Barbie is out to take down Oppenheimer out of spite.
Out of the three biggest releases of summer 2023, Barbie is the menace. Starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling and backed by the power of Warner Bros., this movie is seriously undermining both Mission: Impossible 7 and Oppenheimer, and if the former is an accident, the latter is a borderline intentional sabotage!
Warner Bros. doesn’t forgive, and it sure as hell doesn’t forget. After having been associated with the genius of Christopher Nolan for so many years, the company found the director’s “betrayal” insulting — and decided to get him no matter what.
Christopher Nolan’s partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery ended soon after Tenet’s release.
The director has largely blamed the company’s policy and movie scheduling issues for the fact that his latest film barely broke even in terms of profits and eventually decided to leave Warner Bros. and join Universal Studios.
As Nolan’s first movie with Universal, Oppenheimer, got a release date, Warner Bros. didn’t think twice: as Puck reports claim, the executives intentionally scheduled WB’s Barbie to come out the very same day.
This is one massive middle finger to the director who left the partnership and a serious menace to his box office revenue.
Apart from mere simultaneous release, there’s at least one more reason why Barbie can easily overtake Oppenheimer. While Nolan’s upcoming magnum opus is rated R, Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling’s love story is only PG-13 meaning that it has a much larger audience.
Honestly, this one’s on Nolan who decided to do his first R-rated movie in, well, forever.
Anyways, the battle we’ll be witnessing soon is going to be massive, and it doesn’t seem like Christopher Nolan has too big of a chance of winning. From the rating of his movie to the dramatic questions raised in it, Oppenheimer only has a thin chance of attracting more viewers than positive, light, and bright-pink Barbie.
Do you hear screaming in the distance, too? Don’t mind that. That’s Tom Cruise.
