Barbie Owners Went Ballistic Over a Single Scene in Greta Gerwig's Upcoming Movie
The president of the company was so outraged that he immediately got on a plane and went to see Greta Gerwig.
A few years ago, the announcement of Barbie was a rather ridiculous and laughable thing – who in the twenty-first century needs a "toy" expensive movie about dolls?
But each year the movie’s popularity gained momentum: Greta Gerwig, who made quite good Lady Bird and Little Women, came to the post of director, and the cast could impress any viewer.
And what will happen in the story? The creators carefully hide the plot from any leaks. However, according to the trailer, it became clear that the main character will be "thrown out" of Barbie Land for being not ideal and will have to survive in a real cruel world.
It is also known that Mattel, the creators of the Barbie and Ken dolls, will appear in the movie. That is, in the movie about the dolls themselves, their creator, played by Will Ferrell, will play some role.
Recently it was revealed that the real president of Mattel, Richard Dickson, was so outraged by one of the Barbie scenes that he flew straight to London to express his displeasure.
Considering that Mattel owns the Barbie brand, he certainly had the right to do so, and if the situation had reached its most negative turn, the movie itself could have been in jeopardy.
However, Gerwig and Robbie handled the situation like true representatives of the film industry – they played the scene in front of the president. After Dickson saw how the scene would look in the movie, he had no complaints. In a recent interview, Margot commented:
“When you look on the page, the nuance isn’t there, the delivery isn’t there.”
Barbie is a true cinematic event of the twenty-first century. A few years ago, no one could have imagined that almost all the viewers from all over the world would wait so much for the movie about dolls of Greta Gerwig.
The authors obviously have a lot of surprises in store, and who knows what the story will turn out to be: a stereotypical bright and primitive fairy tale, or a really harsh and realistic metaphor for our society. One thing is clear – Barbie will not leave any viewer indifferent.
