Barbenheimer Who? Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan Eyes Record-Breaking Global Box Office Success
Beware, Hollywood!
As much as the movie industry has everything, it still finds a way to surprise us. It seems like only a month ago the world was obsessed with the success of Barbie and Oppenheimer, totally different movies by genre and everything, and now something new is about to shake up the industry a bit.
The new thriller from Bollywood has just been released, and it has already broken some records.
The movie is titled Jawan, and it stars without a doubt the best Bollywood actor of our time, the king himself, Shah Rukh Khan. Even if you know nothing about the Indian film industry, you have probably heard his name once or twice.
The movie has already become a success in its home country, breaking some of the records set by SRK and his previous blockbuster Pathaan. But now it’s aiming to land at the top of the global box office.
The film debuted worldwide on Thursday and is expected to easily cross the ₹500 crore ($60 million) mark worldwide by the end of its extended opening. The high end of projections put these numbers between $70 million and $80 million. So it looks like Jawan will soon become the biggest Hindi language debut of all time.
But what made the movie such a hit? Well, there's no doubt that the audiences were just happy to see their beloved actor on the big screen again. Any movie with Shah Rukh Khan in it becomes a hit with the viewers. His ability to portray any kind of character is just amazing.
But there was also something in the story that made the fans appreciate the movie even more.
“One of the things I absolutely loved in Jawan was how they handled the female characters. Not the fake four more shots or 90 percent of crap we get in the name of women empowerment. Coming from a guy I love strong female characters but we don't often get that so whenever something like this comes around I always enjoy it,” Redditor BenefitPale said.
So it seems that today's Bollywood is not only about portraying the massive life-and-death battles between good and bad guys, but is more than capable of tackling the most challenging and important issues of the world's agenda.
Jawan had its world premiere on September 7.
