Bad News For All Ted Lasso Fans: Don't Expect New Spinoffs Anytime Soon
We all need to get a break from what happened with season 3.
Surprisingly, even after all the bad reviews that season 3 of Ted Lasso got online, the end of the series hit fans harder than expected.
Many people didn't expect to feel so empty inside without a wholesome show to tune into, so it's only natural that talk of spin-offs has begun.
It's also very convenient that the ending of the original series leaves more than enough room to pick a storyline and continue it in a separate show.
If anything, one of the criticisms of the whole season has been that the writers seemed to start focusing on spinoffs too soon, forgetting about the actual Ted Lasso show they have to finish.
Now that the finale has aired, however good or bad it may have been, the showrunners seem to be pulling back. At least no one in the cast and crew knows for sure what the future holds and what to expect from it.
In the most recent Reddit AMA session on r/TedLasso, the series' co-creator and actor Brendan Hunt, who portrayed Coach Beard on screen, admitted to knowing no more than a regular fan at this point. He wrote the following:
"My pat answer, that is also 100% true: We don't know. We need a break and will take one presently. Nothing has been ruled out, everything is possible; but that includes the possibility that we're done. We won't know until we've sat with it for a while [and] decompressed."
Even if there is a chance for the Ted Lasso universe to make a comeback, it will not happen anytime soon.
Judging by Hunt's answer, producing a spinoff is not a top priority for the team, so even if they decide to move forward with an idea, the writing and pitching itself could take well over a year.
Until then, your best bet is to catch up with Ted Lasso on Apple TV Plus. All three seasons of the show, including the series finale, are now available to stream, so strap in for the wild ride with Coach Lasso and Richmond FC.
