Back to the Cabin: New Evil Dead Show is in the Works
The star and central figure of the Evil Dead franchise, Bruce Campbell, is unlikely to reprise his memorable role of Ash Williams on screen.
But cheer up, dear fans of the (occasionally) comedic horror series! Not only is another reimagining of the original movie on the way, but also a new animated show.
The fifth movie in the franchise, Evil Dead Rise, will be released in less than a month. It was directed and written by Lee Cronin, an Irish filmmaker known for his critically acclaimed 2019 horror debut The Hole in the Ground.
Sam Raimi, the almighty creator of a franchise that spans movies, TV shows, video games, comic books and even its own musical, and the actor who played Ash Bruce Campbell served as executive producers.
On the occasion of the release of the upcoming movie, Bloody Disgusting caught up with Campbell. And it looks like a whole brand-new show is already in the early stages of development as Sam Raimi and his brother are actively working on it.
"All I can say is we're actively pursuing it. Sam's a busy guy. He had a big hit movie, so he's got a lot on his plate, but he and his brother are actively shaping out the world.
It's one thing to get an animator and say, 'Hey, animate this!' You've got to know what you're going to animate. I look forward to it, because my voice hasn't aged as much as I have", Campbell shares.
No word yet on whether the animated series will be connected to the original trilogy and the Ash vs. Evil Dead series, or if it will be a stand-alone show that will once again tell the story of a lonely cabin in the Tennessee woods that hides ancient Sumerian secrets in its basement.
Either way, it's nice to know that Raimi and Campbell are still involved in the more than 40-year-old iconic saga. It seems that the fans have high expectations as well.
"If Sam gets involved they'll probably get a decent production company to give it the attention it needs. And depending on how good evil dead rise does, it could draw in a lot more people," Reddit user masetheace23 says.
There are also hopes for the appearance of beloved characters from the previous series.
"I actually really liked the addition of the new characters in AVED, even Brandy who was only in one season! I hope they have them back lol", Redditor wwhyyamiheree expects.
No matter what we get on the way out, we will definitely be hearing Campbell's fan favorite voice on the new project, so it's too early to say goodbye to the legendary Ash Joanna Williams. Meanwhile, Evil Dead Rise will hit the big screen on April 21.
