Andy Serkis is ready to join the new Lord of the Rings films, but there are a few conditions to meet first.

Andy Serkis has built an impressive career over the years, specializing in motion capture roles.

He has appeared in a wide range of films, from King Kong (2005), where he played two roles, both the titular ape and Lumpy, the ship's cook, to the new Planet of the Apes and Star Wars movies, but the role that earned him the title of master of motion capture came even earlier.

And he recently admitted that he wouldn't mind doing it again.

Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings film trilogy premiered 20 years ago, and among the many great things it gave audiences, it was Andy's chance to shine as a mo-cap actor.

His portrayal of Gollum, a creature corrupted and obsessed by the One Ring, still stands up today thanks to the groundbreaking (at the time) CGI and the actor's brilliant performance.

Serkis later reprised the role in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2021), the first installment of The Hobbit trilogy.

Now, with the news that Warner Bros. has announced plans to make new films based on J.R.R. Tolkien's books, the question arises as to who will play Gollum in this new iteration.

Serkis is more than willing to play the character again, although there are some conditions that must be met first.

Peter Jackson and his writing team are currently negotiating to be a part of this new take on the trilogy, and if they are successful, Serkis is eager to join the production.

"I adore those guys and they are a second family to me, [...] And so, yes, if some opportunity were to come up, it would be an amazing thing," the actor said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

Though such a turn of events could greatly benefit the new movies, fans remain skeptical.

They say the original trilogy is a miracle that can't be replicated, and there's no way the new casting choices will be as perfect as the previous ones, even with the involvement of Jackson and Serkis.
