At Least One Big Bang Theory Star Was Genuinely Relieved The Show Ended
The Big Bang Theory is one of the most iconic shows of the 21st century despite getting out to a shaky start during its early days.
The show managed to run for 12 successful seasons and nearly 300 episodes. However, when it was time to call it quits, not everyone was ready for the departure.
There is much that has been speculated regarding the end of The Big Bang Theory. For many, the timing was appropriate and saved the series from becoming dull and monotonous like so many shows do that outlive their welcome. On the other hand, the premature exit blindsided cast members and spawned a noteworthy feud between two of its biggest stars.
As a result, fans have been sweeping through the ruins over the last few years to discover what went wrong and why. It turns out that more and more cast members are speaking out about the exodus, including one notable star who feels genuinely relieved that The Big Bang Theory is over.
Kunal Nayyar, who is one of only four cast members on The Big Bang Theory to appear in every episode, admitted that hearing the show was coming to an end was a "giant weight off his shoulders."
Nayyar plays Raj, an astrophysicist in The Big Bang Theory, and transformed into one of the most popular side characters.
However, as the cast was participating in a table reading for season 12, it became apparent to Nayyar that something was off. Thus, when Jim Parsons shocked the rest of the cast by revealing it would be his last season on the show, he was met with mixed reactions.
The surprise announcement blindsided co-star Kaley Cuoco, who reportedly wept and refused to address Parsons for several days thereafter.
Meanwhile, the news was handled better by Melissa Rauch (Bernadette Rostenkowski-Wolowitz), who praised Parsons for being courageous and sticking to his values.
Sadly, not every cast member felt the same way. Co-star Johnny Galecki reportedly was upset that Parsons elected to inform the producers of The Big Bang Theory before mentioning the exit to the rest of the cast.
He has gone on record stating the situation could have been handled better and that Parsons abandoned an obligation to his "family." It's a sentiment not shared by Simon Helberg (Howard Wolowitz), who thinks too much of the blame has been shifted on Parsons.
Nayyar, meanwhile, appears to take the most rational approach. He had a suspicion that Parsons, like other cast members, suspected the end and ultimately supports his decision to leave the show.
Thus, his reaction to The Big Bang Theory coming to an end was neither a good nor bad thing. "I felt a giant weight had been lifted off my shoulders," Nayyar relayed. "I don't mean this in a positive or negative way… an absolute honest way, that something within me was released. At that moment, I said goodbye."
Nayyar compares the conclusion of The Big Bang Theory to the end of a relationship. It's the love of your life and nothing seems wrong at the time, but yet it's time.
Consequently, the actor is still adjusting to life after The Big Bang Theory considering Nayyar feels like he grew up on that show. "I'm still processing that entire journey," he confessed.
