As Halo Series Keeps Flogging a Dead Horse, Fans Wonder Why It's Not Canceled Yet
The second season of the show has finished filming, but fans are wondering who asked for it in the first place.
The second season of Halo, a sci-fi TV series based on the acclaimed video game franchise, has officially wrapped filming, but given the post-production involved, it will be some time before it is officially released.
But apparently, "when" is not the question fans want to ask. It is "why?"
The TV adaptation was heavily criticized for how poorly it handled the source material, and most importantly, how it completely bastardized and twisted the character of Master Chief, or John-117, the main protagonist of the video game series.
The moment he took off his iconic helmet 40 minutes into the first episode of the series, anyone familiar with the game understood that something was very wrong.
The mystery of John's appearance was the cornerstone of the video games, as his face was never shown.
Of course, things wouldn't have worked the same way in the show, but at least the creators could have taken notes from The Mandalorian TV series and made this reveal a huge climactic moment for the season, rather than completely throwing away the game's legacy in the first episode.
Unfortunately, the character assassination continued throughout the series, culminating in John having sex with a human spy for The Covenant, an alien theocratic empire that was the main antagonist of the first three games and the series.
Fans were completely outraged by this, as he knew she was a spy and still essentially committed a war crime, possibly being responsible for the destruction of the planet Reach (which was a major plot point in the games).
Some even called for the writers to be fired after such an atrocious treatment of an iconic character.
Well, that apparently didn't happen, as fans were quite surprised that the show not only wasn't canceled, but that it will get a second season.
While some are still hoping for some kind of improvement, like getting rid of the annoying character of Kwan who was created specifically for the series, others believe that no salvation is possible.
Yes, the series had impressive visuals and good fight scenes, although they were extremely rare, which is completely absurd for a show based on a shooter, but the complete mishandling of the source material made fans absolutely despise it.
The creators had an extremely promising and easily adaptable material on their hands, and they completely blew their chance.
A release date for Halo season 2 has not yet been announced.
