Are Will Trent & Angie Getting Back Together for Good in Season 2 Finale?
It looks like Will's ultimate love interest will differ from the book version. But will that be the case?
Summary
- Will Trent Season 2 Episode 7 took a dark turn regarding the protagonist's childhood trauma.
- Angie came to his rescue and it looks like they are finally ready for a full commitment.
- Will Trent's Ramón Rodríguez weighs in on their romantic prospects.
Will Trent, ABC's procedural drama, is so popular that the network has renewed it for a third season in April 2024. Not that ABC has a recent history of high-profile cancellations like, say, CBS. However, considering that the popular Station 19 was not renewed not too long ago, the stakes are high for any project, which is why the news of the upcoming Season 3 is incredibly exciting for Will Trent fans.
For now, we still have three episodes to go before Season 2 comes to an end. And as the experience of the previous season shows, this is where the most intense events are about to unfold, so we should definitely stock up on popcorn. Especially if you're a follower of the Will/Angie ship!
After all, it looks like the final episodes will provide us with the definitive answer as to whether these two are the endgame for each other or if fate has something else in store for them.
Will Trent actor Ramón Rodríguez has shared his thoughts on the matter.
Ramón Rodríguez on Will & Angie's Relationship
Some (probably book fans) feel that this ship has no basis, and that Will's love interest is much more interestingly touched upon in the source material. Some (probably also book fans) are actively rooting for their endgame. And some are just incredibly curious to see how their relationship will develop in the remaining episodes. Especially after last week's scene.
'Some people say these two should not be together, and some people say these two are meant for each other because of what they've survived,' Rodríguez told TV Line. And the latter is what brought them back together in Episode 7 of Season 2.
In the previous episode, "Have You Never Been to a Wedding?", Will once again confronted his childhood trauma and unlocked some of his scary memories, including his foster father and his own mother. And it was at this point that Erika Christensen's Angie Polaski, who also happens to be a survivor of the foster care system, brought comfort to the protagonist in the form of a passionate kiss.
After the kiss, they admit they can't remember the reasons for the last breakup in this crazy on-and-off relationship, and as Rodríguez rightly points out, 'But the big question is: Can it build in a healthy way?'
What's Next for These Two?
According to the actor, this storyline will begin to develop in the upcoming episode 8, and therefore some fans have every reason to be worried. What if the beloved characters realize that it's easier for them to be apart than together? Ramón Rodríguez is optimistic.
'It's feeling hopeful,' he said. 'Maybe there is a way to work this, and maybe there is a way that we can commit to this. I think there is trepidation on both parts, and I think for anything to really work in a healthy manner, both need to be fully committed. They find themselves in a place where they'd at least like to attempt that commitment and… make it work.'
Apparently, the matter of Trent's childhood trauma will reach a boiling point in the next episode, leading to a very dark twist and an even darker season finale. So who better than Angie to support Will and Will to support Angie in such a difficult moment?
We'll see what's in store for Will and Angie in the remaining three episodes of Season 2. The eighth episode will air tonight, May 7 at 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC and on Hulu the day after.
