Are The Duffers Too Scared to Kill Off Main Characters on Stranger Things?
Despite the resounding love for Stranger Things season 4, there are some people out there – including cast members – who think that it's high time for the Duffer brothers to kill off a main character or two.
Users of the Stranger Things subreddit are particularly vocal about this. One of their biggest dislikes about ST season 4 was that no one of any significance (we're looking at you, Max) ended up dead. Considering how much nostalgia the Eddie Munson character evoked and how much fans loved him, killing him off just because he's a newcomer is unfair. Eddie also brought in heavy metal music and rekindled the theme of Dungeons and Dragons in the show.
Some fans even would have preferred that Steve had died in his place. After all, Steve is also a massive fan-favorite, and his and Eddie's roles on the show are pretty similar. Let's imagine that Steve died heroically and passed his torch to Eddie. That would be cool. And it would save fans from the return of the Nancy/Steve/Jonathan love triangle, which the Duffers seem intent on setting up for next season.
Eddie's Pointless Death Was The Biggest Stranger Things Mistake
Fans still believe the Duffer brothers are leading up to a big blood bath in season five. Some consider Steve Harrington's speech about wanting six children a foreshadowing, something that "sealed his fate." Others, however, believe that Stranger Things is "just not that kind of show." Killing off the main characters for the sake of drama was never the creators' goal, so why would they start doing it now?
So, what is it? Are we expecting a major character to be killed off next season?
Are the Duffer brothers actually too scared to kill off characters?
Mille Bobby Brown, who plays the show's most important character, recently told The Wrap, "The Duffer Brothers are two sensitive Sallies that don't want to kill anyone off. We need to be Game of Thrones. We need to have the mindset of Game of Thrones."
However, are the Duffer brothers suddenly going to kill off the main characters? It doesn't seem so. After all, fans didn't take Barb's death very well in season one as until her death, she was seen as a major character. Would fans really want to see a kid die?
The Most Gruesome Stranger Things Death is Also the Most Heartbreaking
Stranger Things is, at its heart, a series about friendships, love, and unbreakable bonds. Add this to the 1980s tropes, music, and background, it's obvious why deaths may not come. I guess we'll just have to wait for season five to land to find out!
