It might be the time to start preparing to say goodbye.

The worst thing showrunners can do to fans is keep them in the dark for too long. While there is a certain amount of intrigue that everyone can enjoy without getting annoyed, some issues require much more consistent updates to keep people from going crazy over them. Especially when it comes to fan-favorite characters or storylines.

It's safe to say that every Chicago Fire fan was extremely upset to learn of Taylor Kinney's temporary departure from the show.

Considering how abrupt it was and how quickly the team had to find a reason to write him off, the matter that caused the actor to take a leave of absence was pretty important and couldn't wait.

It would be much easier to deal with the loss of the beloved character with a little more certainty about his comeback, but that's not something that either Kinney himself or the Chicago Fire production team could offer. While the actor has always been known to keep his personal life private, the team seemed to respect his choices.

What rubs fans the wrong way is not being completely in the dark about Taylor Kinney's future as part of the show's cast, but the way the writers seem to be trying to test the waters with different character dynamics while Kelly Severide is still technically a part of the show. Honesty would be a much better policy in this case, many believe.

As of now, there is still no official confirmation or statement as to whether Taylor Kinney will return and when fans can expect it.

However, many believe that Severide's on-screen love interest Stella Kidd is already being secretly tested for chemistry with another character, Sam Carver.

Though the story between them is currently very one-sided, with Stella's heart still belonging to Kelly, there is no way to tell if the showrunners plan to change that next season. Judging by the initial reception, it wouldn't be the best idea. However, this could easily be the factor that affects Severide's departure story-wise.

Whether or not Taylor Kinney will come back to Chicago Fire season 12, we’ll have to wait and see. Stay tuned to not miss any important news and behind-the-scenes updates!
